Adera Privacy Policy
Effective date: 11 August 2026
Last updated: 11 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Genesis Solutions, trading as Adera ("Adera", "we", "us", or "our"), collects, uses, discloses, stores, and protects personal data when you use:
- Adera, our customer application (package name `com.adera.customer`);
- Adera Driver, our rider application (package name `com.adera.rider`);
- the website at https://adera.delivery; and
- the delivery, support, payment, wallet, notification, and related services connected to them (together, the "Services").
Adera is the controller of the personal data described in this Policy unless we explain otherwise. Our contact details are in Section 17.
1. Overview
We use personal data to create and secure accounts, arrange and complete deliveries, match customers with riders, show delivery progress, process rider wallet transactions, communicate with users, prevent fraud, and meet legal obligations.
Important points include:
- A customer and the assigned rider receive limited information about each other when needed to complete a delivery.
- Adera Driver collects precise location while a rider has chosen to be online or is completing a delivery, including in the background as described in Section 7.
- We use service providers for maps, notifications, SMS messages, payments, and file storage.
- We do not sell personal or sensitive personal data for money and do not use it for third-party behavioural advertising.
2. Personal data we collect
The data we collect depends on which app and features you use.
2.1 Account and identity data
We may collect:
- phone number, first and last name, optional email address, and profile image;
- one-time passcodes and whether your phone number was verified;
- referral code and referrer information;
- acceptance of the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy;
- account status, sign-in times, and security or verification history; and
- device, session, IP address, and user-agent information used to secure your account.
We store one-time passcodes and refresh tokens in hashed form where supported by our systems. Do not share a one-time passcode with anyone.
2.2 Customer and delivery data
When a customer requests or manages a delivery, we may collect:
- pickup and drop-off addresses, labels, landmarks, and precise coordinates;
- sender and recipient names and phone numbers;
- package type, description, weight, declared value, handling notes, and delivery requirements;
- requested pickup time, route, distance, estimated duration, price, payment method, and transaction status;
- delivery offers, assignment, progress, cancellations, failures, completion, and delivery-event history;
- pickup or delivery photographs, signatures, and confirmation codes where required; and
- ratings, comments, complaints, and support information.
If you provide another person's information, such as a recipient's name, phone number, address, or photograph, you must be authorised to provide it and should tell that person that Adera will use it to complete the delivery.
Adera does not need to read or upload your device contact list. Recipient details are information you choose to enter.
2.3 Rider application and verification data
For Adera Driver, we may also collect:
- driver's licence and national identification numbers;
- photographs or copies of a driver's licence, national identification document, profile image, and other onboarding documents;
- document verification, expiry, approval, and rejection information;
- vehicle type, plate information, brand, model, colour, year, and insurance information;
- availability, online/offline state, rider status, performance, ratings, delivery history, and earnings totals; and
- precise location and related movement data described in Sections 2.4 and 7.
Government identification and verification records are restricted to authorised personnel and service providers that need them for onboarding, safety, fraud prevention, or compliance. We do not display government identification numbers publicly or to customers.
2.4 Location data
Depending on your role and permissions, we may collect:
- customer-selected pickup and drop-off coordinates;
- a rider's current and historical precise latitude and longitude;
- location timestamp, accuracy, speed, heading, route, and last-seen information; and
- device battery information sent with rider location updates to help assess location reliability and service continuity.
The customer app may use device location to help select a pickup point or show a delivery on a map. Adera Driver uses foreground and background location as described in Section 7.
2.5 Photographs and other content
We collect photographs or files that you choose or are required to submit, including profile images, rider verification documents, package pickup photographs, and proof-of-delivery photographs. The apps may request camera or photo-library permission for these features.
2.6 Payment, wallet, and financial records
We may collect or generate:
- delivery prices and payment method;
- rider wallet balance, locked balance, earnings, top-ups, withdrawals, refunds, adjustments, and transaction history;
- payer phone number where supplied;
- payment-provider references, transaction identifiers, status, and limited response metadata; and
- records needed for accounting, dispute handling, fraud prevention, and compliance.
Payment providers may collect additional information directly from you under their own privacy notices. Adera does not intentionally store complete payment-card details.
2.7 Communications and notifications
We may collect:
- push-notification tokens, device platform, device identifier, app version, and notification status;
- SMS delivery records and service-message status;
- support requests, complaint details, attachments, and our responses; and
- messages and notices relating to accounts, deliveries, safety, payments, or policy changes.
2.8 Technical, security, and usage data
We may collect IP address, user agent, device and app information, session records, request and error logs, security events, suspected abuse indicators, audit records, and feature interaction data that our systems generate when you use the Services.
3. How we collect personal data
We collect personal data:
- directly from you when you register, request or accept a delivery, submit documents or photographs, contact support, or use a wallet feature;
- from another user, such as when a customer provides recipient details or when delivery parties rate one another;
- automatically from your device and use of the Services, subject to device permissions;
- from riders and delivery operations, such as location and proof of pickup or delivery; and
- from service providers, including payment, notification, SMS, maps, and identity or document-verification providers.
4. Why we use personal data
We use personal data to:
- create, authenticate, administer, and secure accounts;
- verify phone numbers, rider identity, eligibility, documents, and vehicles;
- create delivery requests, calculate routes and prices, find eligible nearby riders, send offers, and manage assignments;
- provide navigation, live delivery tracking, status updates, pickup and delivery confirmation, and customer support;
- process and reconcile delivery payments, rider earnings, wallet top-ups, withdrawals, refunds, and disputes;
- send one-time passcodes, service SMS messages, and push notifications;
- maintain safety, investigate incidents, enforce our rules, prevent fraud and abuse, and protect users and the public;
- diagnose errors, maintain service reliability, and improve the Services;
- keep business, tax, accounting, security, and audit records; and
- comply with law, lawful requests, court orders, and regulatory requirements.
5. Legal grounds for processing
Depending on the purpose and applicable law, we process personal data because:
- it is necessary to perform our contract with you or take steps you request before entering a contract;
- you have given informed consent, including through app permissions where consent is required;
- processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation;
- processing is necessary to protect a person's vital interests; or
- processing is necessary for legitimate interests such as delivering and securing the Services, preventing fraud, resolving disputes, and improving reliability, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it, but this does not affect processing already carried out lawfully. Some features cannot operate without the information required for them.
6. Information shared between delivery participants
To arrange and complete a delivery:
- an assigned rider may receive the customer's name and phone number, pickup and drop-off information, recipient details, package information, delivery instructions, and information needed to contact the delivery parties;
- a customer may receive the assigned rider's name, profile image where available, phone number, rating, vehicle details, delivery status, and live or recent location during the assigned delivery; and
- a recipient may receive delivery-related SMS messages or a confirmation code.
This information must only be used for the relevant delivery, safety, support, or dispute-resolution purpose. Users must not publish it, use it for unrelated marketing, or retain it longer than reasonably needed.
7. Adera Driver background location
Adera Driver collects and transmits a rider's precise location while the rider has chosen to be online or has an active delivery. Collection may continue when the app is minimised, in the background, or not actively in use.
We use this data to:
- determine whether a rider is near a requested pickup and eligible for offers;
- keep the rider available for dispatch while online;
- provide navigation and delivery progress;
- let the assigned customer track the rider during an ongoing delivery;
- support safety, incident review, fraud prevention, and proof of service; and
- maintain accurate operational and delivery records.
Location is transmitted to Adera and its infrastructure providers. During an assigned delivery, relevant live or recent location may be shown to the customer associated with that delivery. It is not shown publicly.
Riders can stop availability-related background collection by going offline, subject to any active-delivery and safety requirements, and can manage location permission in device settings. Disabling required location access may prevent the rider from going online, receiving delivery offers, navigating, or completing a delivery.
This Privacy Policy supplements, but does not replace, the prominent in-app disclosure shown before background-location permission is requested.
8. When we disclose personal data
We may disclose personal data to:
- delivery participants, as described in Section 6;
- service providers and processors that host data, store files, send notifications or SMS messages, provide maps, process payments, support customer service, or help us secure and operate the Services;
- professional advisers, auditors, insurers, and contractors subject to appropriate confidentiality duties;
- public authorities, regulators, courts, or law-enforcement bodies when disclosure is required or permitted by law, needed to respond to a lawful request, or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Services; and
- a successor or transaction participant in connection with a proposed or completed financing, reorganisation, merger, acquisition, or transfer of all or part of our business, subject to applicable notice and protection requirements.
We do not allow service providers to use personal data for their own unrelated advertising purposes.
9. Main service providers
Our current Services use providers that may process personal data on our behalf or as independent controllers for their own services, including:
- Google Maps Platform for maps, places, routes, and location-based functionality;
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications and device-token delivery;
- Chapa for rider wallet top-ups and other payment or transfer functions made available in the Services;
- AfroMessage for one-time passcodes and delivery-related SMS messages;
- cloud infrastructure and object-storage providers used to securely store rider verification documents, profile images, and delivery photographs; and
- hosting, database, networking, and security providers used to run Adera's backend systems.
Your use of a third party's own website, payment page, map, device platform, or service may also be governed by that third party's terms and privacy notice.
10. Storage and international processing
Adera is based in Ethiopia, but some providers named above operate infrastructure in other countries. As a result, some personal data may be processed or accessed outside Ethiopia. Privacy, government-access, and data-protection rules in those countries may differ from Ethiopian rules.
We handle local storage and any cross-border transfer in accordance with applicable requirements, including requirements concerning necessity, consent, safeguards, regulatory approval, and sensitive personal data where applicable. Contact us if you would like more information about the location or safeguards relevant to your data.
11. Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including while an account is active and for periods needed to:
- provide deliveries, wallet features, support, and account access;
- maintain transaction, tax, accounting, and business records;
- meet rider verification, safety, insurance, and regulatory duties;
- prevent fraud, enforce agreements, investigate incidents, and resolve disputes; and
- establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Retention periods differ by data type and may be affected by legal requirements, the sensitivity of the data, the risk of harm, and whether it can be safely deleted or anonymised. When personal data is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it, unless lawfully retained in a protected record or backup until its normal deletion cycle.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal data. These may include access controls, encrypted network connections, restricted signed links for private files, hashed authentication secrets, monitoring, backups, and audit records. No internet service or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for protecting access to your phone, one-time passcodes, and account. Contact us promptly if you believe your account or personal data has been compromised.
13. Your choices and rights
Subject to applicable law and appropriate identity verification, you may have the right to:
- be informed about our processing and request access to your personal data;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- request deletion of personal data;
- object to or request restriction of certain processing;
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- request a usable copy of certain data where applicable; and
- submit a complaint to the competent Ethiopian data-protection authority.
You can update certain profile details in the app. Device settings let you manage location, camera, photo, and notification permissions. Permission changes may disable related features but do not automatically delete data already collected.
We may decline or limit a request where the law permits or requires us to do so, including to protect another person's rights, comply with legal retention duties, prevent fraud, or preserve evidence for an unresolved dispute. We will explain the applicable reason where required.
14. Account deletion
You may request deletion from the Delete account option in the app or through https://adera.delivery/delete-account. You may also contact us using the details in Section 17.
After verifying the request, we will delete or irreversibly anonymise the account and associated personal data unless retention is permitted or required for a legitimate reason such as legal compliance, accounting, security, fraud prevention, safety, an unresolved transaction, or a legal claim. We will not treat temporary suspension or deactivation as account deletion.
Deleting an account may be delayed until an active delivery, pending wallet transaction, or unresolved safety or payment issue is completed or safely resolved. We will not require you to keep an account merely because some records must lawfully be retained.
15. Children
The Services are intended for people aged 18 or older and are not directed to children. Riders must be legally eligible to provide delivery services and satisfy all applicable licensing requirements. If we learn that a child created an account or provided personal data contrary to these requirements, we will take appropriate steps to close the account and delete the data, subject to law.
A recipient may be under 18 only where the customer and recipient's parent or guardian have lawfully arranged the delivery and the delivery is suitable for that recipient.
16. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy when the Services, providers, or legal requirements change. We will update the date above and provide additional notice in the app, on our website, or by direct communication when a change is material or consent is required.
